Hydref is the Welsh word for October and also, as ‘Yr hydref’, refers to autumn. Technically, this time of year stretches from the end of September to mid-December and is the transition from summer to winter. Autumn, a season of “mists and mellow fruitfulness” (To Autumn – Keats) traditionally evolves into the winter ice and snows.

Or, at least it used to here.

Increasingly, this transition is either early in arriving or winter stretches well into March and some years, it feels like there hasn’t been any winter at all.
Snow, for me, is increasingly becoming a distant memory.

At least on this release, the memories are rooted in the music, as Hydref is the passage of time, from late summer to winter in sound.
